The unconference for people who create and work with digital content
In 2011, I went on over 100 interviews in pursuit of a career in public relations. I was embarrassed that I struggled to gain entry into Corporate America after graduating college. Therefore, I hid my struggles, didn’t ask for help, internalized the rejection and tried to pretend to be something that I’m not.
I got in my own way and it wasn’t until I started to meet people that I admire who were candid about their journey that put things into perspective. It helped me stop being embarrassed and to turn that journey into lemonade. I decided to share my story by writing about what it was like to interview and get rejected that many times. I wrote about that period of my life for Levo and Fast Company.
It resonated with so many people and for the first time I found my voice. By using my voice, I created a platform Lemons 2 Lemonade to help other millennials turn life’s lemons into lemonade. I learned two important things through sharing my experience: 1) You aren’t alone and by sharing your truth you can be impactful and inspirational. 2) I discovered what I really wanted to do in life and my story helped shape my career.
